1. TrueNAS 25.04 Released, Embracing Linux and Unifying SCALE and CORE Codebases
TrueNAS 25.04, codenamed “Fangtooth,” has been officially released, fully adopting Linux as its base system. Previously, TrueNAS versions were split between the FreeBSD-based CORE and the Linux-based SCALE. The release of Fangtooth marks a significant step toward a Linux-centric future for the project. Built on the foundation of TrueNAS 24.10 “Electric Eel,” which improved performance and Docker support, Fangtooth introduces over 1,000 changes, including more than 150 bug fixes. Although labeled as a formal release, iXsystems continues active development.
